Supporting the establishment of an ‘IT college’ in Kisumu
I met with Kennedy Ogolla first time at the NABA Summit, late 2012. Accidental meeting during the luchbreak. Learned about his plans to establish an ‘IT college’ in his home town, Kisumu.
Kennedy has spent almost half his life in Norway, but was now ready to settle and make a living in Kisumu.
We exchanged background and ideas. Kennedy explained that he had managed to collect ‘second hand’ IT equiment from companies, like the Monter Group. I mentioned that I knew of a company in Sandefjord, GreenTech, that had specialised in refurbishing and reselling IT equpment received from companies with a agressive ‘latest technology’ profile. Promised to give it a try to contact them. Long story short: I got in contact with Jonas Lossius, who was very supportive. They had no PCs to donate, but sold LapTop as low as 1000NOK a piece. Agreed with Kennedy to order 10 and ship to a friend in Oslo, who was on his way to Kenya. Refirbishment turned out to take longer than expected and the LapTops therefore missed the transport opportunity. I therefore decided to take with me the LapTops (and a Projector donated by areBare). Box traveled with me all the way from Dar Es Salaam to Kisumu.
Will update this page, as the ‘IT college’ Project evolves.
